Dear Edna Brewer Students and Parents,
Hello! I hope this letter finds you well, enjoying your summer. I want to share important school dates and information with you at this time.
The first official day of school will be Monday, August 25. This year’s registration is scheduled for Monday, August 11, Tuesday, August 12 and Friday, August 15. Registration is mandatory for new and returning students. Students are encouraged to come to registration, but students are not required to participate. However, all students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at registration.
All NEW Edna Brewer students (6th, 7th and 8th grades) must register on Monday, August 11: 9:00 AM–2:00 PM.
(If you are unable to register your child on this date, it is critical that you contact Office Manager Charlene Johnson at 510-531-6600, x503.) Due to there being an extensive waiting list of students trying to get into Edna Brewer, students who are not registered will be dropped for our enrollment.
A New-Student Orientation will take place on Monday, August 11 at 2:30–3:30 PM. It is not mandatory but encouraged. J There will also be a New Student BBQ at Dimond Park on August 23rd. More details will be shared by automated phone message.
All RETURNING 7th and 8th graders must register on Tuesday, August 12, 2014: 9:00 AM-12:00 PM & 4:00–7:00 PM OR Friday, August 15, 2014: 9:00 AM–4:00 PM.
At registration, parents and guardians of NEW and RETURNING students will complete/submit:
- Immunization records required for all new students and students with incomplete immunization records.

- OUSD Registration Packet
- After-school program application (Official program starts Tuesday, September 2, 2014)
¨ Students will receive a letter of program enrollment during the week of August 25th
¨ For students who are enrolled, there will be a mandatory parent meeting on Thursday, August 28th, at 6:00 PM
- PTSA membership and volunteer signup ($10 adults/$5 students, CASH/CHECK ONLY)
- Meal Application (mandatory for all families to complete regardless of need, the completion of this form helps Edna Brewer qualify for extra funding)
- Important school and district information regarding attendance, school rules/policies, etc.
- Receive class schedule, locker assignment and one complimentary Panther planner (replacement cost will be $5.00)
Please make arrangements to ensure your attendance at registration to guarantee your child’s spot at Edna Brewer. Those who cannot register on the above dates must contact Office Manager Charlene Johnson at Charlene.email@example.com or 510-531-6600, ext. 503.
We are very excited to begin the new school year. To build on our previous successes, each student will keep the same “family” of teachers for both their 7th and 8th grade years. In the 6th grade, each student will belong to one of two families, consisting of four core teachers.
During the 2014-2015 school year, Edna Brewer Middle School will continue to ensure academic excellence for all. To do this, we need your help. Help your child come to school every day prepared to learn. This includes eating breakfast and having appropriate supplies such as paper and pencils.
Much time is spent at registration filling out paperwork. We therefor encourage parents to save some time and come by the school to pick up a registration packet before registration. Packets will be available for pick up August 7th & 8th from 10am-3pm.
We will be giving you a supply list during the first week of school. Please WAIT to buy school supplies until then; this way you only buy what you need, not what’s most popular. J
Students can buy Edna Brewer uniforms at registration–or store-bought PE clothing. The PE uniform will be red shorts, white t-shirt and black sweat pants.
