The 2016 Ride for a Reason was a huge success!

We had a team of 25 Brewer riders and volunteers. We met our goal of raising more than $100,000 for Oakland schools!

Congrats to the Brewer students who rode 45 miles from Vacaville to Sacramento! 6th grader Leo Mates-Muchin, 7th graders Audrey Stineman and Elizabeth Laber, 8th grader Aiden Binder.

A shout-out to the Brewer parents who pedaled all the way there: Dave Binder (109 miles!), JT Mates-Muchin, Linda Larkin, Brett Stineman, Jim Robins, Mark (109!) and Suzanne Laber, Jen Ryden, Erik & Lisa Babcock, Karl Ma, and Adriana & Rene Perrier. The course was beautiful back-country farmland and this year featured mild temperatures and a tail wind.

Thanks to our Brewer volunteers — we couldn’t have made it without you: Support and Gear driver Sandy Binder, Mechanic Brian Glueck,  Bike Truck driver Eric Londgren, Finish Line staffer Pam Fong, and crack of dawn Registrar Yasmin Medora plus Brewer students Claire Londgren, Isabella Ma, and Anya Londgren.

Our rally in Sacramento on the steps of the Capitol was short but inspiring. We learned that California has a serious funding gap for public education with the highest student to teacher ratio in the nation.  Oakland school board member Jody London reminded us that California’s students are our state’s most valuable natural resource, one worth investing in. Let’s increase the state’s public school funding so that we no longer fund our students with bake sales and bike rides!

Brewer will be participating again in the 2017 Ride for a Reason. Set your sights on riding 45 or 109 miles with us in May 2017!
