Our Team

Caroline Asis
Principal

It is my pleasure to serve as Edna Brewer Middle School’s principal. I joined Edna Brewer in 2019 and served as the 6th grade assistant principal for 3 years. Prior to joining OUSD, I was in SFUSD for 5 years as an early childhood teacher and principal. I earned my first master’s degree in Elementary Education and a second master’s degree in School Counseling in NY where I’m from. I then earned my Administration Credential when I decided to become a principal. I enjoy spending time with my husband, Jon, and Yorkie named Malfie. I have 2 grown children (Jordan and Paige) who live in Texas and Los Angeles.

Courtney McLaughlin
Assistant Principal, 6th Grade

I am so excited to be joining the Brewer community! This is my first year as an assistant principal at Brewer, and I am grateful to be part of the 6th grade team. Before starting as an assistant principal, I taught 7th and 8th grade math for ten years here in Oakland. I recently completed my masters in educational leadership and administrative credential at UC Berkeley, where I also spent my undergraduate years studying mechanical engineering. When I am not at Brewer, I enjoy going on walks, reading, quilting, and spending time with my niece and nephew.

Jenny Founds
Assistant Principal, 8th Grade

I am excited to join the Brewer community as the eighth-grade Assistant Principal!  I have been working in public education for thirteen years.  I spent the majority of my time working in a San Francisco middle school as an eighth-grade humanities teacher and restorative practices coach.  Outside of the classroom, I love spending time with my partner and two daughters Malaya (3) and Kai (1).

Jonathan Tran
Assistant Principal, 7th Grade

Edna Brewer holds a very special place in my heart. I first joined Edna Brewer as a Little Panther in 2003 and have fond memories of teachers who pushed me to see myself as a scholar. In 2014, I accepted my first job offer at Brewer, and some of my teachers became my colleagues overnight. I have been the science teacher for 7 years, instructional coach for 1 year, served as the 6th grade assistant principal, and now am the 7th grade assistant principal. The one thing that remains constant is the overwhelming acceptance from educators, families, and students. I’m thrilled to be a part of our special community. Go Panthers!

August Spafford Community School Manager

I have been supporting students and families at Edna Brewer Middle School since 2011 when I was fresh out of college and was an AmeriCorps volunteer. I have held a variety of roles and titles in my time at Edna Brewer and the community is like my second family. In 2019, I officially became one of our school leaders by assuming the role of Community School Manager. I love this school community and plan to be here for a very long time!
